The very same person - but known more in the Scottish dance scene than English or Irish. However he is a dance researcher, interpreter and scholar. He has some authoritative and definitive works published. And he worked with Tom and Joan Flett on promoting traditional (non-RSCDS) Scottish dancing. Contras with a Hey

Hello Folks, I am relatively new at calling contras and I am looking for some asy to intermediate contras to introduce the hey to a group that includes many beginners. and/or club square dancers. "Butter" by Gene Hubert is my go to dance, but I am looking for a few more. I like Butter because the flow from ladies chain into a RH hey is great, and because all the other calls are introduced earlier in most evening. I love simple, but different choreography, so I am open to most suggestions. Rich Sbardella

Hugh was primarily a Scottish dancer and there might be someone still around who has, or knows of the whereabouts of, his publications or personal files. Holiday stuff

Christmas Mixer is on my website at http://k-1.us This is a mixer we've been using for years as part of the Winter Solabration (now in its 30th! year). Adaptation of Dog Branch Reel by Bob Dalsemer note: #3 is Serenity Knoll Stroll, by Charley Harvey, but as Jerome transcribed it, it has been tweaked, with the A & B parts switched.Charley's original version goes like this: Improper contra (not Becket) A1) Whole set promenade ccw; turn as a couple and return single, file, women in the lead. The version that Jerome transcribed is an adaptation to which I confess credit or blame. I was calling a Jonesborough event and I wanted to include this dance to honor David Wiley, since Charley wrote it for the opening of the fabulous dance pavilion at his idyllic place in Jonesborough. Country Dances from Sussex Continuing upon the theme of country dances from Sussex - these were written up in one Heathfield gentleman's diary: Sylvan Harmer. The instructions are brief - likely mere aide-de memoires. No tunes are given. They likely date to post Regency.
