Private Party Dances, ONS, Bandana dances, Hay Bale gigs, etc.

Hi all! I am doing a callers discussion at NEFFA on private party dances aka One Night Stands. I define these as events where the vast majority (or all) of the attendees are what Dudley so aptly called "Not beginners. They're not beginning anything." In other words, dancers once a year or once a lifetime with no experience who, appropriately, just want to have a good time. I am hoping that many of you will be interested in attending, (Friday night, 9:30 pm, in the Chorus room. If you don't know about NEFFA: www.neffa.org) but that is not why I'm posting this. My original intention for this hour was a material swap. I'm rethinking that, but would still want to have material to share. If you have favorite private party material (remember, 100% non-experienced dancers) that you are willing to share, I would appreciate it. If you call lots of private party dances and would be willing to email me a "typical" program*, that would be great. I would give you credit, unless specifically requested not to. So email me back at: beth(a)hands4.com and I hope to see some of you at NEFFA, where I am wearing way too many hats. * Yes, I know that there is no "typical" program and that one of the skills of a good caller is the ability to adapt to conditions on the floor, but many of us have a pretty good idea of what is common. Heart Beat Contra

Hi, Here is another question about a dance I collected at the Down East Country Dance Festival this year. In the B parts of Don Flahertys Heartbeat Contra I have Swing Neighbor; left gypsy (1 ½ ?) to Partner; All Swing Partner/ Circle left ¾; balance (who?) and California Twirl (Partner?). Besides my other questions I am unsure if the All Swing Partner ends (B1) or starts (B2). Thanks for your help.

Here's how the dance starts: A1: Circle right (8) Allemande left with neighbor (6) Men pull across by the right (2) A2: Hey (partners pass left shoulders to start) (16) So yes, the allemande left is once around, leaving the men facing each other for the pull by which in turn starts the hey. Rockin' Robin

Hi, I recently danced Rick Mohrs Rockin Robin at the Survivors Dance after this years Down East Country Dance Festival. A great dance and a great afternoon. I am wondering about the transition from the allemande left with neighbor to the Men pull-by by the right hand to partner, that ends A1. It seems that the allemande left must have been for something like ¾ until the men can meet in the middle, but I cannot remember from the dancing of it. Is that right? Thanks, Rickey Holt.

Lady Walpole's Reel

Lady Walpole's Reel is a great dance with out a partner swing. The dance is great, the tune is great, but the tune is not the easiest to play. One of those old dance tunes that really needs to be played up to speed for you to really love it, and you really can't dance Lady Walpole's Reel, without the matching tune... Jeff

Interesting dance. Coming back in at the top/bottom would be challenging.
